As Through The Eyes of The Forgotten Majority is an experimental documentary. It will be exciting to see what the outcome will be of this film will be. As it aims to challenge society’s attitude around mental health, as well as the conventions of documentary.

I aim for my main audience to be those of whom are looking for innovative filmmakers. As a result, this will also influence which film festivals I will enter my documentary into. I believe my secondary audience will be, those of whom are seeking to widen their knowledge on taboo topics. This will influence the way that I publicise and market my documentary. As I have to make sure it reaches a niche but also wide audience.

Although my documentary may seem abstract at the beginning of my documentary. I aim to be less abstract and more informative about the topic of the documentary near the end of the film. As some audience members may not understand what this documentary is about. Although I want the topic of this documentary to be mysterious, I also need to package it in a way that will gain the right audience's attention. Therefore, I must be very effective with my advertising of the documentary.

One way in which I aim to publicise my work, is through the use of social media. Keeping the mystery of the topic as the main focal point, as curiosity can gain a bigger audience. I will use Instagram in particular for photos and video snippets as well as Facebook. I have chosen these two social media platforms as they are the best for generating a sophisticated buzz, in comparison with Twitter for example.

I also aim to talk to two mental health charities to see if they will publicise my work on their social media, in return, I will fund raise for them. Therefore I could, sell the tickets of my documentary as a way of fundraising for the charities. This will also hopefully create a Buzz around my documentary, and people will be more willing to pay as its in relation to a charity event.

The two charities I have chosen are Coram which uses art therapy as a way for young children to cope with their mental health. I have chosen this charity as they seem very open to fundraising ideas, and will even discuss with you ways in which you could fundraise, if you’re struggling with an idea. The second charity is called 'Mental Health Foundation', which is a well-known and respected charity that has a lot of social media buzz around it. I have chosen this charity as they have similar aims to my documentary, which is to ‘understand’ mental health better. The charity seems very keen for helpers and for those who want to make a difference, and I believe I fall into that category.

I aim to use the above methods during production as a way to generate buzz around my documentary. However, once everything is completed I aim to submit my film to the following film festivals below:

Aesthetica as the guidelines are very open and fit my brief of the documentary, which I intend to be no longer than 30mins, this is one of the requirements.

I have chosen Make Dox as they support student films, as well as creative documentary styles. As a bonus the entry fee is free.

Carmarthen Bay Film Festival is the last film festival I will submit to. I have chosen this festival as within their documentary sector they are looking for documentaries that are: engaging, creative and give insight into real peoples lives (Carmarthen Bay). These are all aspects of which I believe my film touches on.

Through conducting research on what film festivals I should send this documentary into it has widen my horizons of the opportunities that are out there for me and this documentary. From what I have seen, a lot of the deadlines are early in the year, (such as April and May). Therefore, I am considering entering this documentary into many film festivals for next year instead, as there will be more opportunity for me to perfect my documentary.
